The Iron Handsaw may cut only the following types of blocks: Cover ( Cover Corner, Cover Slab, Cover Strip). For example, you can create a stair-like shape by placing both a horizontal and vertical slab within the same block space. You can stack slabs within a single block to make compound structures. Placing the block while looking at the central square will place the slab flat against the block face. Placing the block while looking at any of the four panels will place the slab in your hand vertically so that the end adjacent to the block face is parallel to the panel you clicked on. You will be able to see a grid on the block face your cursor is on which is essentially a central square surrounded by four panels. With slabs in hand, looking at a block will render a preview of how the slab will place in the world depending on where you click. For example, a stone or iron saw cannot cut obsidian (which has a diamond mining level) and a stone saw cannot cut redstone ore (which has an iron mining level). Saws can only cut blocks of their mining level or below. If the block is compatible with the mod, the output of the crafting will be two vertical slabs of the input block. Place any saw in a crafting grid directly above any block. These slabs can be placed in many different orientations throughout the world to create interesting compound shapes that would normally be impossible in vanilla Minecraft. Forge Microblocks adds three different saws to the game which enable the player to cut blocks into vertical slabs.
